General Information

Shanghai University is a comprehensive research-oriented university in Shanghai. It is a jointly established institution by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government. The university is a key construction institution of the national “211 Project”, a pilot institution for constructing high-level local universities in Shanghai, and a part of the national “Double First-Class” university construction initiative. SHU presently has 24 centers for post-doctoral studies, 28 first-class disciplines doctor’s degree conferring programs, 9 doctor stations for inter-disciplines, 45 first-class disciplines master’s degree conferring programs, 1 second-class disciplines master’s conferring programs (not covering first-class disciplines), 23 master degree categories and 101 undergraduate majors. It boasts a complete range of disciplines, covering Philosophy, Economics, Law, Literature, History, Engineering, Management, and Arts. SHU has 1 State Key Laboratory, 1 training base of State Key Laboratory, 1 international united laboratory of the Ministry of Education, 3 bases under the “Overseas Expertise Introduction Project for Discipline Innovation” (111 Project), 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 2 engineering research centers of the Ministry of Education. Today’s Shanghai University, in terms of both educational quality and overall facilities, ranks among the top institutions in China. It is striving to become a world-class comprehensive research university with distinctive features, matching the prestigious status of Shanghai city.

Qualifications and Requirements
Basic Qualifications
  • Abide by laws and regulations, adhere to professional ethics, possess a rigorous academic style, and have a strong team spirit.
  • Hold a full-time doctoral degree, be in good physical and mental health, and be able to perform duties normally.
  • Meet the needs of the university and discipline development, possess the ability to teach core courses in the discipline, and demonstrate outstanding scientific research capabilities.
Specific Requirements
1.Discipline Leader
  • Engaged in teaching, research, or technical work at well-known domestic or overseas universities, research institutes, or corporate R&D institutions, with at least associate professor or equivalent academic qualifications. The candidate should have outstanding academic achievements and significant influence in their field.
  • Capable of grasping the development direction of the discipline and leading and organizing teams to conduct organized research.
  • Generally, applicants should be no older than 50; however, there may be some flexibility for exceptionally outstanding candidates.
2.Top-notch Discipline Talent
  • Engaged in teaching, research, or technical work at well-known domestic or overseas universities, research institutes, or corporate R&D institutions, with senior position experience or equivalent academic qualifications. The candidate should have achieved innovative outcomes in fundamental research, technology development, or similar areas that are recognized by peers.
  • Possess the potential to become an academic leader or leading talent in the field, demonstrating strong research organization capabilities and team spirit.
  • Generally, applicants should be no older than 45; however, there may be some flexibility for exceptionally outstanding candidates.
3.Young Innovative Talent
  • Capable of accurately grasping the academic trends and development direction of the field, having participated in or led fundamental, innovative, and forward-looking research projects, and having achieved innovative outcomes in fundamental research or technology development that are recognized by peers.
  • Possess the ability to compete for and undertake research and technological innovation tasks. As an academic backbone, collaborate effectively with relevant domestic and overseas institutions in the field.
  • Generally, applicants should be no older than 35; however, there may be some flexibility for exceptionally outstanding candidates.
4.Outstanding Postdoctoral Fellows
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental theoretical knowledge in their field and the ability to conduct scientific research independently. Capable of accurately grasping the academic trends and development direction of the field, having achieved innovative outcomes in fundamental research or technology development that are recognized by peers.
  • Have a solid academic background, innovative vitality, and academic potential.
  • Generally, applicants should be under 35 years and have obtained their doctoral degree no more than 3 years prior. Recent graduates will be given priority.
Remuneration and Benefits
1.Discipline Leader
  • Successful candidates will be appointed to senior professional technical positions.
  • Remuneration package will be no less than RMB 700,000, with housing subsidies of at least RMB 3,000,000.
  • Research start-up funding: RMB 2,000,000 for science and engineering disciplines, RMB 1,000,000 for humanities and social sciences. Assistance will be provided in applying for Shanghai high-level discipline construction funds ranging from RMB 4,000,000 to 6,000,000.
  • Candidates can independently establish a research team, with the university providing policy support for team development. Priority will be given to recommending the candidate as the team leader for applying for RMB 10,000,000 in Shanghai Team Development funding.
  • Assistance will be provided in applying for national and local talent programs, household registration, children’s school enrollment, and other matters. Candidates may rent a university talent apartment.
  • Enjoy benefits such as the “five insurances and three funds” (occupational pension, housing provident fund, supplementary housing provident fund), sponsored exchange visits, paid leave, annual health check-ups, and recuperative care.
2.Top-notch Discipline Talent

  • Enjoy benefits such as the “five insurances and three funds” (occupational pension, housing provident fund, supplementary housing provident fund), sponsored exchange visits, paid leave, annual health check-ups, and recuperative care.
3.Young Innovative Talent
  • Successful candidates will be appointed to special researcher or associate researcher positions.
  • Remuneration package will be no less than RMB 350,000, with housing subsidies of at least RMB 350,000.
  • Assistance in applying for national and local talent recognition, household registration, children’s school enrollment, and other matters. Candidates may rent a university talent apartment.
  • Enjoy benefits such as the “five insurances and three funds” (occupational pension, housing provident fund, supplementary housing provident fund), sponsored exchange visits, paid leave, annual health check-ups, and recuperative care.
4.Outstanding Postdoctoral Fellows
  • Assistance in applying for the Shanghai Super Postdoctoral Program and the National Postdoctoral Innovative Talent Program, with an annual salary of RMB 300,000 to 600,000.
  • During the postdoctoral fellowship, candidates can apply for the evaluation of associate senior professional technical positions. Those who pass the evaluation will be given priority for staying and working at the university, and they can be appointed to senior professional technical positions upon entering the university.
  • Candidates may rent a university talent apartment, with an annual housing allowance of RMB 20,000 during the fellowship period. They will enjoy benefits such as five insurances and two funds, paid leave, annual health check-ups, recuperative care, etc. Assistance will be provided with arrangements for children’s school enrollment and childcare.
